Tyne Bridge faces 10-day full closure during October half-term for restoration work
Überblick
The Tyne Bridge is set to close completely for 10 days between 23 October and 2 November to allow specialist teams to build scaffolding ahead of main steel arch restoration work scheduled for 2027. Newcastle City Council has warned of significant travel disruption, urging commuters to plan ahead and use public transport. Unlike previous closures, pedestrian and cyclist access will not be maintained for safety reasons. Up to 70% of the deck will be completed during this closure, with the remainder finished via overnight vehicle closures in November. Additionally, a nine-day Metro closure between Monkseaton and St James is planned during the same half-term period.
