Community crowdfunder launched for new Sheffield arts and media venue
Overview
Sheffield Community Media, the team behind Sheffield Live, has launched a crowdfunder inviting the public to become community shareholders in order to reopen the historic former Tap and Barrel pub in Castlegate as a live arts and media venue.
Key points
- Sheffield Community Media purchased the former Tap and Barrel pub earlier this year with help from social investment lender The Key Fund.
- The group is aiming to raise £150,000 through community shares, bonds, and arts grants to transform the building.
- The transformed venue is intended to reopen by the middle of next year as a pub, cafe bar, and live arts and performing arts space.
- The organisation plans to relocate its studios from the Workstation to the new site by the end of the year.
